I like the colors and the little details that go into every pair- the soft memory foam foot bed and groovy traction that leaves the unmistakable Jambu foot print. However when I went to put them on, I was thinking to myself "perhaps I've just become a shoe snob" because the cool details/textures I was just ogling over on the pads of the shoe bothered my feet a little... Since I wasn't planning to do the major sandal faux pas, that is wearing socks with my sandals, this new texture was going to take some getting used to.

I wore them right away as I do all my Jambu shoes and noticed these were going to take a little breaking in as well. It didn't take long- within a week I was over the textured sole and my feet were ready for extended hikes and walks- and although I wouldn't recommend them for heavy hiking in the back country I'd say they were perfect for walks around town, a trip to the mall or amusement park and everyday life in general. I love that the Jambu Coastline sandals are light weight, have good airflow and stay clean easily! I hate new shoes that are scuffed on your first day and look worn out after one outing- no my shoe fanatics these Jambu Coastline sandals will be a welcome pair for my spring and summer collection being versatile and functional- my favorite kinda shoes. =)

Jambu Ladybug: A Perfect Match to the Jambu Coastline

If you have a little girl who is developing her own style and loves fancy shoes too (or she adamantly knows her own style and you have very little say) you'll love the new Jambu Ladybug. If she wants to be like mommy but not necessarily your clone she will love 'em too. The Jambu Ladybug is perfect for a girl who is a little wild and crazy and active and fun.

But, you as a parent want to make sure she has the support she needs for her growing feet and not just a shoe that will be kicked off and discarded because they are pretty but not functional. The Jambu Ladybug are light weight, cute and available in pink, baby blue and green (actually pistachio if you want to get fancy). They are pretty to look at, easy to clean and they stay on nice and go on easy!!! The foot bed is also super comfy memory foam and the recycled rubber outsoles have toe and heel bumpers for extra durability. They are the perfect cute sandal for a little girl and tough enough for everyday real play with their scuff resistant toe bumpers.

As with the Jambu Coastline adult version I wouldn't recommend heavy hiking with lots of rough terrain- but for light hikes, rides with bikes, parks, zoos and everyday life they are the perfect well rounded her kinda personality fitting shoe and will no doubt last the seasons. And with any luck fit her sister too in years to come.

Nah, these Jambu Nomad boots are so fashionable you can wear them as Fall footwear, as well as cozy enough for those blustery Winter days soon to come. However if you like to wear a nice warm wool sock with your boots you may want to go up a half to full size as the Jambu Nomad boots fit a little snug with winter socks.

Jambu Nomad Boots - More Like a Comfortable Shoe than Clunky Boot

Perhaps since the Jambu Nomad fits more like a shoe or high boot like the Jambu Colorado Vegan it doesn't need breaking in like other winter boots, plus they are more comfortable for longer walks - the memory foam footbed is just heavenly on long walks. I was able to wear the Jambu Nomad boots for an all day trip to the Mall of America without any foot soreness. I don't know of many winter boots that can do the same.

These are by far my favorite boots as far as comfort and looks - I love the faux fur lining, the detailed stitching and laces and of course the front recycled rubber toe bumpers so I won't ruin my pretty Jambu Nomad's from salty sidewalks or slushy snow. (when the snow finally arrives). Oh, by the way the Jambu Nomad is supposed to be waterproof too so even when winter hits full swing these fashionable boots should be able to handle it. I'll have to let you know more once I've tested them out in colder weather and snowy conditions.

What We've Learned from Previous Jambu Girl Shoes

We've had several Jambu girl shoes purchased new and used and we've been very happy with how they have held up with two very active kids. Here are a few things we have noticed with our Jambu kids shoes:

• Tread still in very good condition throughout with some slight wearing after a year or more of use
• Stitching is all still intact (even around velcro strap with the shoes with velcro) - no fraying or breaking
• Toe bumper really helps save the shoe from excessive wear - the shoes look nicer longer
• We have been able to get a second (or third when we have bought used) use out of them and they still hold up great

Overall we have enjoyed our Jambu discovery. The company seems to be dedicated to creating new cute styles that not only look great but hold up in all types of use. If you are looking for cute comfortable girl shoes I think you'd be very happy with Jambu as well. And if you are looking for fall girl shoes the Jambu Splendor is a winner in my book.

Lunchbots: stainless steel lunch containers with style

If you don't like the idea of throwing away plastic bags by the dozen or washing them out and having them decorate your kitchen with their plastic malfeasance you might like Lunchbots as well.

Lunchbots Pros and Cons

As long as you know what to expect with these Lunchbots stainless steel lunch containers I think they will make a nice addition to lunch time on the go either for yourself or for your kids. First off many are surprised by the size - most people expect them to be bigger and are somewhat disappointed, but if you know before hand that they are about the size of your hand (the Pico is 5 1/2 x 4 inches, the Uno and Duo are 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches or the Eco is 7 x 5 1/2 inches) you'll know you won't be able to fit an entire lunch in one Lunchbot. They are great for a sandwich in one and some snacks or fruits and vegetables in another. Two will fit in a kids lunch box with room for a thermos or water bottle.

Another con that has been mentioned which I believe has been resolved is that although they are said to be dishwasher safe the colorful lids have been known to peel. But, please note that the makers of Lunchbots have acknowledged that there was a batch of lids that had some defects and they will replace the bad lids with new ones free of charge - On all accounts their customer service is said to be fantastic.

There are conflicting reports on how easy it is to open Lunchbots lids for young children, some say they open easily and others say their 4-6 year olds have difficulty opening them. We've found they are much easier to open than similar bento box style containers, but it may vary from batch to batch.

One of the biggest pros in my mind is that Lunchbots are BPA free dishes since they are made from food safe stainless steel. Some mention you can't use these in the microwave as you could plastic but if you are concerned with toxic BPA in plastics you wouldn't want to microwave those either.

Lunchbots Pros:
Colorful non-VOC stainless-steel
eco-friendly option to plastic bags
No BPA as found in plastic containers
Fits nicely in a lunch box
Three sizes that fit into each other for storage
(the Pico fits inside the Uno which fits inside the Eco)
Did I mention no more plastic bags!!!

Lunchbots Cons:
Not as big as expected
Not water tight (not good for liquid-like foods ie yogurt)
Not easy to open for some young children

Overall I love these Lunchbots, they are colorful, easy to use and fun for the kids to have a "picnic at school" everyday. And most of all Lunchbots will save you a ton on plastic bags.

In one corner you have the Moonrays 91206 Solar Powered Tiki Torch Path Light which uses one amber LED and one flickering amber LED to simulate that raging ball of fire that excites and tantalizes our senses - but in a much more subdued way and without the sooty smoke and kerosene smell.

In the other corner is the Paradise Lighting GL23922 Solar Bamboo Look Tiki Torch which uses two flickering LED lights instead of the one fixed and one flickering and has a round top vs a more square top on the Moonrays Solar Tiki torch.

Other than the difference in the lighting style both solar tiki lights are pretty much the same, both run on Rechargable Ni-Cd batteries (included), both stand at 59 inches tall on bamboo tiki torch poles, both have a frosted lens, and both use eco-friendly solar charging panels to power them at night.

Based on the research I've done and the reviews of these solar tiki lights you may want to get different NiCd rechargeable batteries as the one's included don't last very long. Keep in mind that these are NiCd batteries and not the more popular NiMH rechargeable batteries, or new more powerful NiZN rechargeable batteries - I don't know if NiMH or NiZN batteries would work or not - but best to stick with the NiCd unless you really do want that flaming ball of fire atop your new tiki light. Just to be safe.

]]> Ok it's official EarthBoxes beat out Square Foot Gardening in a tag team cage match, okay I don't know where that came from I don't even watch wrestling but if I did the EarthBox container gardening method would be the Hulk Hogan of small space gardening.

When you compare EarthBoxes vs Square Foot Gardening you have to take into consideration what you are looking to get out of gardening and how much space you have. With Square Foot Gardening you need more space but you also get a more traditional gardening feel - you get to play in more dirt and maybe pull a few weeds (although if done right you won't really have that many weeds to contend with - Square Foot Gardening really is a rock solid method)

What I like about EarthBoxes and what you'll like as well is the ease with which you keep the plants watered - just fill the reservoir with water when needed and the plants do all the work - they just grow.

Last spring I had planted basil in my square foot garden (well I skimped a bit so it is more like my rectangle foot garden but the concept is the same) and they finally decided to grow at the end of the season so I had to bring them indoors - at which point they took off like a green thumbed rocket - why? I put them in a pot that has one of those easy fill reservoir bottoms - just add water when needed and the plants do all the work. Plus you can use them indoors so if you live "up norte" like we do you can grow your favorite vegetables and herbs all year long!

]]> I was perusing the halls of eBay looking for interesting eco-friendly products to write about when I was smacked in the face with a unique eco-nique from i-nique - and since that is a lot of niques my interest was immediately piqued by this cool Nook cover.

What is an eco-nique you might ask (after your tongue unwinds from saying unique eco-nique from i-nique 5 times real fast). The Eco-nique is part of a line of superbly cool and creative cases made by i-nique (products sold through tuff-luv.com)

They make cases for just about any device you've ever heard of (and maybe even a few you haven't) including mp3 players, phones, cameras, laptops, GPS devices and other e-readers and tablets like the new Kindle Fire and Nook Color.

The product that grabbed my attention - and the line I think you'll dig as well is the eco-nique natural Hemp Nook cover for Barnes & Noble Nook (they have the hemp case covers for sale for other devices as well)

Since I am a new Nook owner I wanted to find a cool Nook cover to keep it nice and safe - and spruce it up a bit to boot. The Eco-nique hemp cover for the Nook turned out to be a good choice. It is very secure, well crafted and a perfect fit for the Nook (and looks slick with the Nature screen saver images)

But What Does a Hemp Nook Cover Feel Like?

To be honest I was curious to see what the hemp Nook cover would feel like - when I think of hemp I think of a coarse burlap, but the eco-nique hemp Nook cover feels great - nice and soft with a touch of padding beneath so if it does slip out of your hands as you fall asleep reading it won't crack you in the noggin' (unless you get it on the corner - ouch!)

The interior material is also nice, an imitation leather that feels a lot like real leather. The Nook fits very snugly inside with plenty of access to the power button on top, the page turning buttons and the ports on the bottom so you don't have to remove or move around the Nook to get to anything.

I like the book style covers for the Nook and the eco-nique hemp Nook cover just so happens to be the book style so you can fold over and clasp the cover for easy reading.

My one disappointment with eco-nique hemp Nook cover (and I'm being pretty picky) is with the color - the color itself is just fine a cool (as in temperature) medium dark brown which is attractive, but it wasn't what I was expecting based on all the photos I had seen. In every photo around the internet it is shown as a warmer lighter chocolate brown. That's the difficulty with monitor setting eh? You never know. They now offer a new Autumn Brown color which is an even lighter more of a creme color if that fits your fancy.
