The overzealous eco-friendly ad guy is back in action with the facts about resveratrol and the mysterious Longevity Gene. I know you've been flipping through your favorite health magazine like I have and have been stopped in your tracks by a drop dead gorgeous girl next door with glowing skin and photoshoped eyes and thought to yourself "whoa hold on what's this?" Only then do you see the "as seen on 60 minutes or fox news" splashed across the top, and the small photo of the doctor in the white lab coat with a "professional" quote at the bottom. Crammed in the middle is the "buy now or die" spiel. (oh, by the way that doctor with the wise words proclaiming the efficacy of the product 9 times out of ten actually makes the product)

Well that's what happened to me today, although truth be told I was stopped by the photo of the "worlds finest Resveratrol" rather than the fair skinned girl next door. Don't get me wrong she and her glowing photoshop eyes was perfectly alluring I just wanted to know more about Resveratrol. I was in the mood for more fountain of youth fun facts after reading Chris' recent post about lime's healthy skin effects plus I had just seen a Resveratrol product on the shelves at Byerly's while looking for Probiotic Health Daily.

You've heard about the "secret ingredient" in red wine that is supposed to provide many health benefits, well basically it is just a super powerful antioxidant (just like blueberries or green tea) with a fancy name - Trans-Resveratrol. This antioxidant is clinically proven to trigger the mysterious Longevity Gene - probably by the same doctor that made the product.

Well, the good 'ol doc also says ReserveAge Organics pounds in the ani-aging benefits of 1000 glasses of red wine in each dose without the negative effects of wine. I don't know about you but if I'm going to live to 100 I could use a good 'ol schnockering with a nice rich red wine now and then. If you don't like wine or would rather stay away from alcohol ReserveAge Organics looks like a good way to go despite all the over blown hype and pseudo physician testimonials. It is organic after all. Plus you can't dispute that the French who consume red wine like we in the US drink bottled water, consume 40% more grams of fat, 4x as much butter, and 60% more cheese per day than Americans, yet the death rate in France from heart attacks is half that of the United States. (although I'm guessing that is in part due to the fact that we in the US eat way more over processed, refined and genetically modified foods rather than real good for you fats, butter and cheeses, but that is a post for another day.)

If you'd like to try out the anti-aging effects of Resveratrol from ReserveAge Organics or other Resveratrol products you can find some for sale above. And as they say "choose the world's finest Resveratrol and experience the difference today!" (or in a couple weeks when it comes in the mail) Don't forget to invite us to your 100th birthday party - we'll bring the wine.

Did you know the good 'ol lime is a powerhouse of natural health and beautiful skin? The easily overlooked little cousin to the lemon is in fact one of the best natural cures for bad skin and may in fact be one of the hidden secrets to the fountain of youth. I was looking through one of those free natural health publications that you find outside "good for you" grocery stores and I happened upon a little one paragraph blurb about the effects of lime juice on the face and skin - my curiosity was peaked.

It turns out all citrus fruits contain some pretty powerful anti-cancer antioxidants (hesperidin, lycopene, citric acid, limonene, and others) which of course we hear about the benefits of eating or drinking lots of citrus for that very reason, but what we don't hear as often is the effects of using citrus and especially lime directly on our skin. These healing properties, as well as lime’s refreshing and clarifying qualities, make lime an especially nice ingredient in topical preparations or skin care. Dr. Jody Alpert Levine, who heads the division of pediatric dermatology at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, New York, says, "Lime’s astringent, antiseptic, and disinfectant qualities are good for treating oily and acne-prone skin."

So here are a few natural uses for lime which will give all of us that wonderful youthful skin we so desire. (caution: be prepared to answer a lot of questions on what's your secret to youthful beautiful skin)

1. Extra Special and Secret (well not any more) Lime Juice Formula

Squeeze a lime into a bowl. Add a glass of boiled whole milk and a teaspoon of glycerin. Stir well and let it sit for half an hour. Apply this mixture on the face, hands and feet before going to bed at night. This treatment every night will help you look even younger and more beautiful than you already are. It is also a great natural cure for acne.

2. To improve a dull and greasy complexion

Mix half teaspoon of lime juice with one teaspoon of cucumber juice and a few drops of rose water. Apply on the face and neck and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse with water.

3. For very oily skin

Squeeze lime juice in a bowl of ice water. Splash this over the face, massage for five minutes and then rinse with water.

4. To improve dry rough skin

Take an egg yolk and mix in a few drops of lime and olive oil. Spread on the face and leave it until the skin feels dry. Wash off with water and splash on cold water to help tone the skin.

5. To relieve tired eyes

Take four tablespoons each of lime juice and ice water. Soak cotton balls in this water and place over your closed eyelids for 10 minutes.

6. To remove freckles

Blanch and grind two almonds, mix it with egg white and a half teaspoon of lime juice. Spread on the face and leave it on until the skin feels dry. Then, wash off first with warm water and then with cold water.

If you aren't the do it yourself type look for natural organic skin care products with lime to get many of the same healing effects. Below are some current organic lime skincare products for sale on ebay including lip balms, facial washes and toners, and perhaps some pure lime essential oils so you can make your own youthful lime concoctions.

Has that pesky Benzine, Propylene Glycol,
and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate gotten under your skin?

After attending a recent seminar on environmental toxins I am left with a burning desire to throw out nearly all my household products. Give them credit for getting the message across eh? We had been slowly switching over to natural products in the let's use the bad stuff up first and then buy all natural organic products manner. Well, after that environmental toxins seminar there were a few products that had to go right away, but that still left us with a number of products that weren't "quite so bad."

And then the dilemma set in, how do we tell the bad ingredients from the good? Aside from the "if you can't pronounce it toss it" style of product disposal what dangerous skincare ingredients warrant a toss in the trash and which one's just sound like they should be tossed out?

As chance would have it we discovered Kaia House an eco-friendly organic skincare company that consults the internationally recognized Environmental Working Group and their Cosmetics Safety Database to verify the safety of each ingredient in every single one of their products. And fortunately for us they've put together a nice little list called: Kaia House.com's Most UN-wanted List which is an extensive list of synthetic chemicals found in everyday products that should be avoided. Bingo we have our list - and now so do you!

If you aren't familiar with Kaia House give them a try, they have a very nice user friendly web site with lots of great organic and vegan skincare products for women, men, babies and kids. Even better why not try some of their products for free!

Visit The Alternative Consumer's great green giveaway by Friday, July 3, 2009 for a chance to win ONE of two fabulous, eco savvy gifts from Kaia House Organics.
